Tradfest: Ellen O'Brien

Ellen O’Brien’s style of music is eclectic, encompassing traditional, classical and contemporary genres, with her playing from a very young age in her native Cavan.

Whether it’s on the flute, whistle or piano, you’ll hear her playing anything from Matt Molloy and Debussy to The Cure. She has won several awards over her years of performing, with her most recent win at the 2024 All-Ireland Senior Flute competition in Wexford.

Ellen is also a member of the National Folk Orchestra of Ireland, and says her musical influences include Leitrim flute players Dave Sheridan and James McGovern.
