Gráinne Brady & Michael Biggins

Fiddle player and composer Gráinne Brady (Co. Cavan) and pianist and multi-instrumentalist Michael Biggins (Newcastle / Glasgow) come together to explore a vibrant and expressive blend of traditional music.

Gráinne is known for her lyrical fiddle playing and thoughtful approach to composition, shaped by her roots in the musical traditions of Cavan, Leitrim, and Clare, and her longstanding involvement in Glasgow’s traditional music scene. Her critically-praised albums and collaborative projects draw on storytelling and history, creating music that is grounded, imaginative, and full of heart.

Michael, BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year (2021), performs internationally with TRIP, and The Canny Band. A graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, he brings a rich musicality, sensitivity, and rhythmic lift to the piano that has made him one of the most sought-after accompanists of his generation.

Together, the duo perform music from Gráinne’s newly recorded third solo album: a collection of traditional Irish tunes - some long cherished, some recently discovered - alongside a few Scottish melodies and modern compositions from both emerging and established tune-makers. The result is a warm, dynamic, and conversational sound: grounded in tradition, yet open, spacious, and full of personal expression.
