Album Launch: Welcome the Stranger into Tipsy House

Cathal Caulfield is a Dublin-born traditional Irish fiddle player and folk singer living in Mayo. He will be launching his debut album of fiddle music and song, Welcome the Stranger into Tipsy House, in the Cobblestone Backroom Venue on Saturday November 14th (Available for Pre-Order on Bandcamp now).

Growing up to the sound of his mother playing fiddle and singing along to Sinéad O’Connor and Mary Black CDs in the car, Caulfield went on to learn from exemplary fiddle teachers Aoife O’Connor, Liam O’Connor and Ciarán Mac Aoghdháin, alongside Ceoltóirí Chluain Tarbh's many talented tutors. Caulfield’s debut album seeks to revive precious old music and song while capturing his artistic development rooted in the Dublin traditional and folk music scene in the decade following his fiddle tuition.

Recorded, mixed and co-produced by Kilian O'Flanagan, mastered by Ben Rawlins, the project features album artwork and design by Sinéad Kennedy, a music video by Ruth Clinton, photography by Sarah Flynn and contributions to the sleeve notes by Jacqui Martin and Jesse Smith. The result is an album of rare music and wild nostalgia, joined by old friends Sarah Flynn on concertina and former Skipper's Alley bandmate Fionnán Mac Gabhann on uilleann pipes. With his wife Catriona Kennedy featuring on the final track, paying tribute to the late Mick O’Grady and Jesse Smith and their magic Wednesday session in the Cobblestone—this is surely a night not to be missed!
